If i do a scan on my pc for wireless networks i pick up the PEWUG network(quite a strong signal). Just wana know will I still need to buy the hardware you guys keep saying is needed? If so, please give me an explination in english of what difference it makes :D(beby language). I connect to my router at home wirelessly, so wouldn't connecting to the PEWUG be kinda the same thing?

    Hi Bergie,

Remember wifi is a 2 way communication.

The highsites and average end uses kits are significantly more powerful than a typical wifi device (such as a laptop with builtin wifi) .. so while you can easily pick up the highsite from a considerable distance with any standard wifi device, the highsite is never going to receive a signal back from you and hence you will not be able to connect, unless if you are literally within about 50m of the highsite (you would probably have to be even closer).

I've got a D-Link wireless 108g desktop adapter which i use to connect wirelessly, says it has a range of 400m. I'm 3km away from the closest tower :(. I unfortunately don't have 1g lying around to buy any extra equipment. but thx for the info and your reply redarrow :D. plain english.

I've found a setting for the thing that changes it from Short Long to Long distance. With that i get a signal strength of 36%. Then says Limited or no connectivity because the server did not assign your pc a network address...so this means i need the special equipment :/
